Erikson's third stage of psychological development details the period of time where a child begins to take initiative of their own learning and interests or feel guilt for having restrictions placed on their freedom or facing harsh criticism. They are regularly interacting with other children at school and this allows them to assert themselves. In this example, Cati is taking initiative of being the seeker for hide-and-seek.
Preschooler: Initiative vs. Guilt (3-6 yrs)
I wanna be the seeker at recess!
Okay! Ethan and I will be the hiders!
School-Age Child: Industry vs. Inferiority (6-12 yrs)
Erikson's fourth stage of psychosocial development is where the beginning of puberty for a child usually begins to occur. It is when the child has industry when recognized for their achievements or inferiority when looked down on by peers and ignored by family. In this example, Cati is being praised by her teacher which will help build up her confidence.
Cati, well done on your project! I am very impressed with your creativity!
Erikson's fifth stage of psychosocial development is the transition from childhood into adulthood. It is where the individual is starting to look towards the future in terms of career, relationships, family, housing, and more. Success is achieved when the individual is interested in changes in their life and prepared for such, and conflict arises when the individual is confused about their identity. In this example, Cati and Ethan are discussing their future careers.
Adolescence: Identity vs. Role Confusion (12-20 yrs)
Right now I'm volunteering at the hospital to get more experience in nursing for the future!
That's great! I'm not sure what I am going to do yet but I've been looking into engineering
