3.1: Macbeth invites Banquo to dinner, and he accepts the invitation. Banquo implies that he knows who killed Duncan, and Macbeth asks what he is doing later. Macbeth later talks to two people who he hired to kill Banquo and Fleance.
"And betimes I will — to the weird sisters.More shall they speak for now I am bent to know" (3.4.136-137).
3.2: Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth that Banquo is a threat, and he tells her to be kind to him at dinner so that he does not expect anything.
"And you all know securityIs mortals' chiefest enemy" (3.5.32-33).
3.3: Two murderers follow and attempt to murder Banquo and Fleance. They are able to kill Banquo, but Fleance escapes.
"Thither MacduffIs gone to pray the holy king, upon his aid" (3.6.29-30).
3.4: Macbeth finds out that Fleance escaped and he gets mad. At the dinner, he sees Banquo's ghost and he gets upset, and Lady Macbeth has to make excuses for his beavior. Macbeth plans to visit the three wicthes the next day.
3.5: The witches talk to Hecate, and she is mad that they did not tell her that they were talking to Macbeth. They then plan to make Macbeth feel safe until it is too late.
3.6: Lennox and another lord reveal that they think Macbeth murdered Duncan and Banquo. The lord then tells Lennox that Macduff went to England to see Malcolm so that they could form an army to prepare for war against Macbeth.
