Storyboard Text

  • Hero has shown to be an amazing lady but Don John has played her out to be a villian. In this scene, Claudio is telling everyone, at their wedding, that she cheated on him and how awful she is.
  • Throughout this play, Claudio shows to be very gulliable. He believes Don John when he tells him that Don Pedro has tricked him and took her Hero for himself. Now, he is beliveing Don John again when Don John tells him that Hero has cheated on him.
  • "O Hero, what a Hero hadst thou been if half thy outward graces had been placed about thy thoughts and counsels of thy heart! But fare thee well, most foul, most fair! Farewell. Thou pure impiety and impious purity. For thee I'll lock up all the gates of love, and on my eyelids shall conjuncture hang, to turn all beauty into thoughts of harm, and never shall it be more gracious."lines 98-106
  • There are two particluar themes for this scene that fit the best. First is deception and trickery. Claudio is continuosly tricked and decieved by Don John throughout this story. Also, Claudio keeps believing Don John without question. Second is the complexity of love. Why would Claudio marry someone he doesn't trust? He should've thought to talk to Hero about the situation and ask her if it was true or not instead of completely outing her at their own wedding. Shakespeare is very good at keeping themes going throughout his stories. Don Perdo also tricks Hero by acting and dressing like Claudio at the masked party. Claudio never really asked Hero to marry him, Don Pedro did. Benedick and Beatrice are another good example of the complexity of love. They didn't even believe in love or marriage, but by the end of the story they fell deeply in love with eachother.
  • ACT 4 SCENE 1
  • "Dead, I think.-- Help, uncle!-- Hero, why, Hero! Uncle! Signor Benedick! Friar!"lines 12-13
  • This scene was the climax of this story. Many different elements led up to this moment in the play. It created more drama with Claudio and Hero and gave the effect of not knowing what the future was for them. It scared the audience for Hero when she passed out and "died." I wanted Hero and Claudio to work out and this messed all of it up.
