There once was a big flying fox called Barry B. Bat. Barry lived in the Maldives and enjoyed going to the beach to cool off from the sun. Lately it had gotten much hotter so Barry found himself at the beach more often, although it seemed that lately the beach had gotten smaller and smaller every time he went. It kept getting smaller until one day Barry B. Bat realised it was gone. In a fit of rage Barry Bat shouted ‘IT’S THOSE GOD-DAMN MANTA RAYS HOGGING THE BEACH AND PUTTING WATER EVERYWHERE!!’ Barry’s friends agreed and convinced him to turn into a Dolphin and convince them to change it back.
So Barry Bat turned himself into a Dolphin and knocked on the door of the head Manta Ray “Manta Matt”. ‘Manta Matt you muppet, you’re taking up all of our land with your sea water, that’s not fair put it back so I can go to the beach again!’ says Barry Bat. Manta Matt looks at Barry and tells him that there is too much water in the ocean and that he has nowhere else to put it. ‘There’s nothing I can do sorry Barry’, says Manta Matt with a disappointed look on his face. Annoyed, Barry swims away when suddenly an eel grabs Barry by the arm. ‘If you want your beach back, turn into a human, build a sea wall and reclaim the land.’ Barry looks back thankfully when the eel swims away. Barry swims back to land and turns himself into a human to begin to build a sea wall.
So Barry turned into a bat again and told his friends and family what happened. Nowadays Barry is working on solving global warming altogether. That is the story of Barry B. Bat.
With a sense of purpose, Barry ran around the island trying to figure out what a sea wall is in the first place, and how he can reclaim the land. Barry must have asked 50 people at least before he could piece together an idea of what a sea wall is and how he could reclaim the land. Barry liked the idea although there was no way he could do it alone, with the help of the bats, manta rays and anybody that would help, he built a 5 metre concrete wall around the beaches protecting it from erosion and he took the land from other places and turned it into a beach. After seeing what he had done he felt a sense of accomplishment and realised that if you tried as hard as you can to fix something you care about, anything is possible.S
