- Meanwhile in a luxury apartment apartment in New York City...
- Mother, why was there a man sleeping outside instead of at his home?
- That was a homeless person. Sadly, it appears that he has fallen victim to homelessness.
- But, what exactly is homelessness? And why is it so sad?
- Homelessness is when someone doesn't have a home that they can come to at the end of the day and rest in.
- It's sad because most of the time it's not a persons fault as to why they are homeless.
- But they're lazy and don't want to get jobs that will give them money!
- You should never say that. We don't know the circumstances that could have led them to that position.
- They could have ben fired from a job that was provided them with the money they needed to pay overpriced rent.
- Or even turned away from society and medical help because of a mental illness that they couldn't afford to treat.
- So you see, we should be more considerate and understanding when we see a homeless person on the street.
- I understand now. Thank you for educating me. Is there a way we can help fight against homelessness?
- To help fight we can advocate for affordable housing and accessible health care for all.
- Along with this we can destigmatize the idea that homeless people are lazy. This will help them integrate into society and get back on their feet so that they too can have homes to sleep in at night.
