  • In 1767, a series of British laws were passed taxing products, increasing taxes for the colonists, punishing colonists for smuggling, and allowed British officials to search colonial houses. These were unfair because the acts gave the British unfair rights over the colonists.
  • Quartering Act

  • This act was passed in 1763, after the French and India war. The act prohibited colonists from settling past the Appalachians.

  • In 1774, the British implemented a series of acts that strictly affected the freedom and independence of the colonists. Acts removed many rights of colonists.
  • Tea Act
  • The quartering act of 1774 forced colonists to provide food and bedding to British soldiers quartered in their homes. This caused some problems because the colonists often did not have enough food to feed themselves.
  • This act passed by the British forced colonists to pay a tax for all written documents. This was to pay for the French and Indian war. This was unfair because the war was not fought for the benefit of the colonists
  • This act gave the East India Tea Company a complete monopoly over the tea sold in the colonies. This was unfair because Brittain could sell the tea for less than the colonists.
