- galileo discovered that univers was heliocentric and that it was not geocentric. heliocentric means the sun as the center, as in the accepted astronomical model of the solar system. it affected the renaissance because they belleved that the univers was geocentric. now we know that the univers is heliocentric and not geocentric. the peobmel was that the church bieved that the erath was at the center of the univers but galileo beleved that the sun was at the center of the univers
