  • Gallaudet met the nine year old, Alice Cogswell. Alice was deaf, and he kinda understood how she felt bc of his own illness. And so he taught her her first word, Hat.

  • This inspired Gallaudet to teach Alice (w/ the permission of Alice's father) as a tutor.

  • Alice cogswell's father thought of many other people that could be going through the same thing, so he thought of making a school with the help of Thomas Gallaudet's help.

  • Gallaudet Travels to europe to go braidswood academy to learn how to teach deaf people yet they didn't want to share their secrets.

  • Abbe Sicard, who did a public demonstration on the french education towards deaf peopole, invited Gallaudet to visit the French National Institute, which taught him how to teach deaf students. However, on the way back home to America, Clerc volunteered to come with to help him on his journey to make a school for the deaf.
  • Once they got back to America they founded the first american school for the deaf. Once the school was established it inspried more schools for the deaf to come up in america.
