Storyboard Text

  • Liquids have a definite volume but not a definite shape. The interaction between the particles are strong, but it isn't as strong as that of solid particles which is why liquids are able to flow.
  • Now, would someone else like to come up here to assist me?
  • Thank you miss! Now, hold the cup while I use my magic heating powers to add heat to the liquid water.
  • Watch what happens.
  • Okay, sure!
  • Well, it didn't really disappear, it just turned into water vapor, which is a gas. If you look at the particles behind me, you can see that they have changed.
  • The water disappeared?
  • Gases have no definite volume and no definite shape. The interaction between the particles is very little and because of that, gases are able to flow.
  • Because I added heat energy to them, these particles are now loosely packed and are far apart from each other. They are also moving quickly in all directions, unlike the liquid particles from earlier.
  • Moving on, I'm now going to use another cup which is filled with liquid water. Instead of using my magic heating powers to change the state of matter, I'll use my magic freezing powers. Watch what happens to the liquid particles.
  • The liquid water has turned into solid ice! You can see that the particles are now much more compacted than before. Earlier today, I added heat to the water and it turned into water vapor, but now when I removed heat, it turned into solid ice!
  • I'm Samuel Matters, the Magician of Magic and that is the end of my magic performance. I hoped you enjoyed the show! Thank you all for watching and have a great rest of your day!
