- Congratulations! Your son will be a doctor or a teacher like his father (pg 18)
- I do not wish to offend you but perhaps Khushal and Malala will both go to university to become doctors (pg 19)
- My father didn't give me something extra, but he never clipped my wings. He let me fly. He let me achieve my goals. (Pg 23)
- When Malala's brother was born, there was lots of celebration because they were a boy. This was NOT the same for Malala's birth. No one celebrated at all!

- No one would hurt a child. Malala can do this safely. This story needs to be heard! (Pg 52)
- I started to write a journal called Diary of a Pakistani School Girl. Many people around the world read it and it drew attention to how girls were being treated by the Taliban (Pg 52)
- A BBC reporter ask Malala's father to help find a teacher to write about the Girl's school closings in Mingora on the BBC Urdu Website. All the teachers were too scared but Malala said she would do it!

- "They thought that the bullets would silence us, but they failed. And out of that silence came thousands of voices. The terrorists thought they would change my aims and stop my ambitions. But nothing changed in my life except this, weakness, fear, and hopelessness died. Strength, power and courage was born. (pg 84)
