Britain didn't want the American merchants to continue supplying food for the French, so they set up a blockade.
Cause #4: Warhawks
Ugh! The British are controlling too many parts of North America! We need war to expand our country!
From 1803 to 1812, the British kidnapped about 6 000 American sailors and forced them to work on British warships.
Cause #5:American Jingoism
The Americans were moving into First Nations territory, leaving little space for the First Nations. The First Nations went to the British for help and the British supplied the First Nations with guns and ammo to attack on the Americans. This move made the British fear the Americans would move to Upper Canada.
Warhawks were a group of congressman in America who like to deal with problems by having war. Leaders Henry Clay, John C. Calhoun, and Felix Grundy declared for war with the British. The Warhawks wanted British aid and wanted the British out of Canada.
Jingoism is harsh talk that’s in approval for war. American politicians said that American troops should seize Canada to protect one another. They said that they would be welcomed in Canada because British North Americans weren't satisfied with living in the monarchy.
