- Though born into slavery in Saint Domingue, Toussaint learned of Africa from his father, who had been born a free man there. He learned that he was more than a slave, that he was a human being deserving of dignity.
- THE WAR IS OVER! SLAVERY IS OVER!
- Enlightened thinkers began to question whether slavery was right or wrong, but slaveowners fought these ideas.

- Toussaint read as many books as he could as a child, written by French philosophers, and eventually joined the slave rebellion.
- The Jacobins took control of the government within France, eventually voting to end slavery within French colonies, such as Haiti.
- Toussaint and Napoleon both agree to be at peace with each other, and Napoleon invites Toussaint over to have a peaceful meeting with him.
- Napoleon betrayed the safeness of the meeting that Toussaint agreed to, and sent Toussaint away into a dungeon where he later died to a mixture of coldness, starvation, and overall neglect.
