  • Nihao everyone. I'm Yanhua Vann. I teach Mandarin Chinese at high school level.
  • As a foreign language teacher, I'm always looking for new technology tools that I can use to make language learning fun.
  • Yes, I have been using Quizlet, Kahoot, Duolinggo, LingroToGo and Google Productive Tools. What else do I need?Until after taking IDT 7061 course, ...
  • I used to think it would not be that many technologies nor that much necessary to apply different tools in Mandarin class.
  • ... But now I think effective digital tools help increase student engagement in language class. They keep Mandarin teaching effectively and also help students develop ACTFL Proficiency, ISTE*S and 21st Century Skills.
  • I used to think Lesson Plan should just be clear, but now I think it should also includes the connections and reflections from objectives, standards, assessments and other elements.
  • The lesson plan instructions really lead me to rethink and understand:1. the way to design the lesson objectives with the Bloom's Taxonomy. 2. the way to apply Visible Thinking Routines in my daily lessons to develop students. ISTE*S and 21st Century Skills. 3. the way of assessments link to the objectives and Lesson Plan Procedures..4. the importance to line out the Lesson Plan with specific durance time.
  • I have been playing lots new tools through this course:1. Google Slides and Forms will be applied daily for instruction and other in-class interactions.2. Concept Mapping will give students a direct understand of related contents or the Study Guide for summative assessments. 3. Fliggrid and Animated Videos make class instruction so fun and more engaged. 4. The StoryJumper will one of students favorite ways to create their own books as an independent/ group projects. 5. Voicethread and Screencasity are such fun and easy tools to create instruction videos. And also can be applied as oral presentations.
  • The technology approaching is my favorite part from this course. I used to think it would be time consuming to apply digital tools, but now I think it maybe take a little time for planning, but as a language learner and an educator, it definitely make language learning fun.
