  • TV ad Storyboard -Chacos Sandalsby Matt Didisheim
  • EXT. FRONT STEPS - DAYOpening WIDE SHOT (WS) of a BOY and a GIRL standing at the front door of a house.
  • Cut to: MEDIUM SHOT (MS) of the two. We see they are teenagers. BOY looks NERVOUS. Through dialogue, we learn they are boyfriend and girlfriend and about to meet the girlfriend's parents.
  • They're going to like you, stop your worrying!
  • Cut to: Front door opens, MS of DAD and MOM. Introductions are made, pleasantries are exchanged.
  • Cut to: EXTREME CLOSE-UP (ECU) of DAD outstretching his hand for BOY to shake.
  • Cut to: CLOSE-UP (CU) of BOY looking at DAD's hand. "You only have one chance to make a good first impression," he thinks to himself. He wants to impress his girlfriend's parents, especially the DAD.
  • Cut to: CU of DAD. His gaze is steady, not unwelcoming, yet intimidating. He's looking forward to seeing the caliber of young man his daughter is dating.
  • Cut to: EXTREME CLOSE-UP (ECU) of DAD and BOY shaking hands.
  • Cut to: EXT. BACKYARD - LATER WS shows MOM and GIRL laughing and catching up at a picnic table, while BOY and DAD are by the grill.
  • Cut to: MS of DAD and BOY. We catch the tale end of BOY'S response to a question about hobbies. Then DAD asks a question, but he's not so much asking as telling.
  • Oh you play baseball? I've got a ball and mitt in the garage, whaddya say we throw around while these sausages grill.
  • Cut to: CU of BOY. He's NERVOUS again. He's aware his trial to impress has ratcheted up a notch. Now he must perform at a sport.
  • Cut to: ECU of baseball mitt exchange as DAD thrusts it into BOY'S hands.
  • Cut to: WS of BOY and DAD spacing out in the yard.
  • Cut to: As BOY jogs over to one side of the yard, we hear clearly the sound of his FLIP-FLOPS padding the underside of his heel.
  • Cut to: FULL SHOTS (FS) show the two throwing the baseball back and forth.
  • Cut to: More FS of them throwing. Things are going well so far.
  • Cut to: DAD throws a little off target, causing BOY to move quickly to the side to try to catch the ball. In SLOW MOTION, we see him trip on his FLIP-FLOPS.
  • Cut to: BOY forms an expression of TERROR in the air. He understands instantly the gravity of his error. To trip in front of his girlfriend's parents is more than humiliating; it's defeating.
  • Cut to: ECU of BASEBALL rolling to a stop, uncaught.
  • Cut to: CRASH ZOOM to POV CLOSE-UPS of MOM and DAD LAUGHING at BOY.
  • Cut to: CU of BOY, dejected, buries head in the ground. IMAGE PAUSES.
  • Events up to this point REWIND, stopping at the opening image, and playing again. The events play out the exact same, with the same shots, until the CLOSE-UP of the FLIP-FLOPS, which is different this time. Instead, we see BOY is wearing heavy duty SANDALS with heel-straps and a sturdy soul.
  • Just like before, BOY and DAD start to play catch. When DAD throws the ball off target, instead of tripping, BOY does a theatric WALL-RUN off the backyard fence, before catching the ball in the air, and landing easily on his feet.
  • Cut to: REACTION CLOSE-UP SHOTS of MOM and DAD, looking impressed.
  • Cut to: FULL SHOT of BOY, looking confident. He feels VICTORIOUS. A look at his GIRLFRIEND, an OVER-THE-SHOULDER MEDIUM SHOT, reinforces this notion. He has impressed. Still looking at his girlfriend, he goes to throw the ball back to her DAD.
  • Cut to: CLOSE-UP of BASEBALL FLYING through the air in slow-motion. MATCH CUT to DAD, who isn't looking - he's giving his daughter a look that says, "This guy's a keeper." MATCH CUT back to flying baseball in slow motion.
  • Cut to: POV shot following baseball through the air, toward unsuspecting DAD. Fade to Black upon impact.
  • We Can't Fix Stupid, But We Can Fix Traction.Chacos Sandals, Get a Grip.
  • FADE IN on Sandals. VOICE OVER reads the banner. END.
