  • Let's say hello to our new neighbor
  • Yes Mum, Can I press their door bell now?
  • Oh, there is someone at the door
  • Yes mummy, I am coming too
  • Hello!Glad to meet you and your daughter. I am Kemi Banks and this is my daughter daughter Sade
  • Hello, I'm Catherine and this is my daughter Ivon. We are living next door.
  • Please come in... Sade and Ivon can play together!
  • Wow! Ivon, come and let me show you my toys
  • Sure thanks!
  • Ivon and her mum leave next door to Sade. They want to welcome "the Banks" to their neighborhood
  • Hello Fairy horse and Purple Mermaid. Sade, can I also play with them?
  • Anytime Ivon, you are always welcome!
  • Mama Sade (Mrs Banks) came downstairs and heard the doorbell ringing.
  • Sade, I will come and play with you again tomorrow!
  • Thank you for having us. And if you need anything, please do not hesitate to ask us!
  • Sade was in the living playing with her toys when her mother came downstairs and turned towards the house door.

  • Mama Sade opens the door. Catherine (Ivon's mum) said hello and introduced herself and her daughter. They are living next door. They all introduced themselves
  • Catherine and Ivon are very nice.
  • Mama Sade invited Catherine and Ivon into her home to have drinks. Sade was very excited to meet Ivon.
  • Rara o Sade! Ivon is not a Yoruba name, so the answer is NO!
  • But why mum, Ivon sounds better than Sade!
  • Mama Sade and Catherine talked and get to know each other, while Sade introduced Ivon to her toy friends. Sade and Ivon liked each other
  • Hello Dad!How are you?
  • Ivon, these are my new toys: this is Fairy horse and Purple Mermaid... say hello to Ivon.
  • Catherine and Ivon are leaving now. Sade was slightly disappointed that they have to leave so soon. Ivon promised to come back and play with Sade the next day.
  • Hello Grandpa!I am not so fine....Grandpa, can you you please tell my mum to let me change my name to Ivon.

  • Mama Sade and Sade are very happy about their neighbor! Sade asked her mum if she can change her name to Ivon
  • Yes mum, I like Ivon... her name sounds so nice! Can I also change my name to Ivon?
  • Mama Sade said NO. She is sad.
  • That's because my mum will not let me change my name to Ivon. My Grandpa also said no because I am a Yoruba girl. But I don't understand what they mean by Yoruba girl!What is Yoruba?
  • Mama Sade's phone rang and she picked it. It is Sade's grandfather. Sade is still sad and she thought of something!
  • I will ask Grandpa to tell my mum to let me change my name!
  • Sade's Grandpa said, "you are a Yoruba girl. Sade, you should answer a Yoruba name." Yoruba names are meaningful!
  • After the telephone conversation with her Grandfather, Sade decided to go to her room. On the way ponder over what her Grandfather said to her.
  • While Sade was thinking about what it means to be a Yoruba girl, a mystical friend "Ife" appeared.
  • Hello Sade!Why are you not cheerful today?
  • Hello Ife!I am not so happy today.
  • Ife and Sade teleports to Wonderland to discover what/who are the Yorubas

  • Sade and Ife arrived in Wonderland
  • Ife and Roduwa began searching in the computer all available information on the Yorubas. They realized there is so much. Sade was very excited to learn about the Yorubas
  • The Yoruba people are descendants of Oduduwa.They live in the South-western part of Nigeria. Their language is Yoruba. Yoruba has a rich culture amongst which are greeting etiquette, dressing, names and oriki.
  • What is Oriki - Oriki is a cultural thing associated with the Yoruba culture. The word 'Oriki" can be translated as panegyric which is a form of praise poetry. In the Yoruba culture, each settlement or minor tribe has its own Oriki. Each household within a tribe or settlement has it own Oriki. Even each individual has his/her own Oriki. 
  • Sade learnt the meaning of her full-name "Folasade Agbeke". Which made her feel so great about herself and no longer want to change her name to Ivon. Ife is pleased to have cheered her up!
