- This place is a desert
- At the time Thomas Jefferson was the president. He wanted to expand the united states territory. So, he bought land from the french out in the west. France was fighting a lot of wars and needed money to buy more supplies.
- Stephen H. Long
- Lewis and clark walked 123 miles of their 8,000 mile journey in Kansas. They discovered that Kansas was a really beautiful place with lots of deer and wild berries.

- He described Kansas as a desert and it was worthless to anyone that would use it. There where very little resources there. He was the first American to travel the territory by land.

- Stephen Long had rode on a steamboat to get to Kansas. He wanted to explore the western land to see if it was safe for Americans to move there. The view of Kansas to him was a desert. He called it, "The Great American Desert."

- Andrew Jackson wanted the Eastern land that the Natives lived in, to be for the White American farmers. He gave a speech about it, and it was called, " Jackson's Speech to Congress."
- The Native americans were forced to relocate to different areas. The tribes where ever unfamiliar animals It was difficult for them.
