One word stuck out at him: calcium. He wanted to ask his teacher about it.
  • What is Calcium?
  • Ms. Sarah, what is calcium? Why is it important to consume?”
  • Good question, Carter! Calcium is a mineral which is required to build , grow and keep strong and healthy bones. It also helps to reduce blood clotting, cavities, regulate blood pressure, keep the nervous and circulatory system healthy, and more! Some studies show that calcium may help in protecting against cancer and diabetes. Kids 4 to 8 years old need 1,000 mg of calcium a day (2–3 servings). Youth who are 9 to 18 years old need 1,300 mg of calcium a day (4 servings). Since this is a major mineral, this is needed in a larger amount than the trace minerals or electrolytes. So students, make sure to have the recommended intake of calcium.
