- Exposition
- It was about 11:00 at night , and Mrs. Jones was walking alone, when Roger ran up behind her and tried to steal her purse.

- Pick up my pocketbook, boy, and give it here, ain't you ashamed of yourself!
- Conflict
- Roger tries to steal Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones' purse and run, but instead he falls down. Mrs. Jones talks to him and he denies that he tried to steal her purse.
- Yes'm, but it wasn't my intention to steal your pocketbook!
- Come with me young man!
- Rising Action
- Mrs. Jones grabs Roger and drags him back to her house. Roger says sorry many times. She takes him into her house, then tells him to wash his face, meanwhile she prepares dinner.
- Climax
- Mrs. Jones leaves Roger alone while she cooks. Roger struggles to decide whether run or stay. He decided to stay and see what Mrs. Jones has to offer.
- Should I run or stay?
- It's okay Roger, we've all made mistake in our lives too, just don't behave like that next time.
- Falling Action
- Roger learns that Mrs. Jones has made mistakes too. They talk about this over dinner. She tells him not to steal anymore. Roger wants to earn Mrs. Jones' trust.
- Resolution
- Thank You, Ma'am
- Mrs. Jones gives him 10 dollars for the blue suede shoes, he says thanks and she closes the door.
