Hello ! My name is Jebica the rock.I am an igneous rock . Today I will be taking you on a journey called the ‘Rock Cycle’ . Get ready because this ride is going to be bumpy! We will be in our trip at the mountain.
Now , the first thing that happens to us rocks is weathering in which me and my other friends are broken down because of the Earth’s atmosphere, so erosion can occur . In erosion the sediments of rock are transported down the mountain using nature , like water and wind.
Now we are at the mountain stream . After the transportation , deposition occurs in which we are further broken down and are deposited in the stream. These small pieces are those which level the ground and make up the bed.
Now , we are on the bed. Here , after many layers are formed from the deposition the sedimentation occurs. The first thing in sedimentation is compaction in which , because of the pressure from the layers of sediments above and water , compress the layers below. Then cementation occurs in which the sediments are glued/bound together to form sedimentary rocks.
After the the sedimentation we near the core where metamorphism occurs. In this stage we rocks face immense heat and pressure from the core (magma) , resulting in a new rock and a different texture which can be simply defined as : The sedimentary rock morphing into a metamorphic rock .
Finally we come back to where we had started . After metamorphism , Lava eruption occurs and reaches to the surface through a volcano. The lava later solidifies and I am formed , and igneous rock! This cycle then keeps repeating itself from the start. I hope you learnt about the cycle rocks go through and how I was formed! Bye !
