- Send our people to Alta CA to secure our land.
- Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo set sail from Mexico to what was named Alta Ca. by the spanish. He didn't find any treasure. On his voyage he broke his leg and it got infected and he died King Carlos III was worried he would lose Alta Ca to the russians. Gaspar de Portolá traveled overland. He traveled with soldiers, Indians and Junipero Serra, a priest. Fernando Rivera y Moncada, led another group and the priest that was with him was Juan Crespí. The journey was hard and they had a lack of food and water. It was also hot. They lost half of their people on their way to Alta CA. While Portol looked for Monterey Bay, Father Serra started the first Mission.

- Mission System
- Daily Life for Native Americans was tough. They were forced to work for no money and would get in trouble if they didnt follow the rules. The child like Pablo went to school and church everyday and also worked. Native Americans were also forced to give up their religious belief, custom and traditions. The women cooked and made soap while the mean built adobe houses. The Indians also plowed, planted fields, dug ditches, and harvested crops. They also took care of all the animals. Indians were very unhappy which is why Nicolas JoseToypurina planned a revolt.
- So much to do I must make the soap and cook.
