- Thank you Texas for electing me as your president! Sam Houston out!
- September 1836 the Texans elected Sam Houston as their president. But, Andrew Jackson refused to annex Texas because it was a slave state and adding too it would upset the balance between free and slave states in Congress. Three years later Sam Houston gets re-elected president from 1841-1844 from his 2 year previous election.

- This presidential Election of 1844 has been extremely tough. But I am happy to tell u it's finally over. My name is James K Polk and I am your new President!
- During the election of 1844, the presidential race was between James K Polk who was a Democrat, and Henry Clay who was a Whig. Polk supported gaining control of the Oregon Country from Britain and annexing Texas. But, Clay did not support texas. This lost him votes in the north and lost him the election. Polk won the election and used the concept of Manifest Destiny to annex Texas. On December 29th, 1845 Texas officially became the 28th Us state .
