- It all started when Charlemagne (creator of Carolingian Empire) died , so his son, (Louis the Pious), inherited the empire.
- Later, Louis had several sons, meaning he divided the territory so that each culd govern a part. Lothair, was given the title of emperor, but after the revolts it was kind of retired.
- Lothair, my son, I wantedyou to have the title of emperor, but because of the revolts it is severely curtailed

- After Louis’ death, Lothair tried to reclaim the power as emperor, but his two brothers, Louis the German and Charles the Bald, united against him, causing a civil war.

- I received the central portion of the empire ( present-day Belgium and portions of the Netherlands, eastern France Western Germany, Switzerland, Italy.
- The empire was divided, but even after the treaty, empire's dissolution began
- I recieved western part of the empire, (present-day France)
