- Hermia although Lysander may be your love he does not have your fathers approval unlike Demetrius who does . Therefore by law Demetrius is more worthy. If you refuse to marry Demetrius Hermia you must either suffer death or have no further contact with men
- Theseus, I come to you today furious with my daughter Hermia. She refuses to marry this upstanding gentleman next to me Demetrius. Lysander has corrupted my daughters heart he is not worthy of her.
- Relent sweet Hermia. Lysander, surrender your flawed claim in deference to my certain right.
- My prospects are equal to, if not better than , those of Demetrius. Hermia loves me.
