- You got no right to come in my room. This here's my room. Nobody got any right in here but me.
- I ain't doing nothing, Just come to look at my puppy And i seen your light.
- I was born right here in california. My old man had a chicken ranch, about ten acres, The white kids come to play at our place and sometimes i went to play with them, and some of them was pretty nice.
- So how long you think it'll be before them pups will be old enough to be petted?
- See you got George, well suppose George don't come back no more. Suppose he took a powder and just left you. What would you do then?
- What? That's not true he won't do it. George wouldn't do nothing like that. I been with George for a long time, he'll come back.
- Crooks was in his room Flexing his muscles against his back. When noisily Lennie appeared in the open doorway.
- I remember when i was a kid on my old man's chicken ranch. I had two brothers. They were always near me always there. Used to sleep right in the same room & bed, all three. Had a strawberry and alfalfa patch. Used to turn the chickens out in the fence rail an watch em white chickens to be specific.
- Speaking of Alfalfa, George says we're gonna have alfalfa for the rabbits at the barn.
- Crooks then calms down and decides to let Lennie come in. Crooks then talks about his past. While Lennie on the other hand isn't really listening.
- You're crazy. I seen hundreds of men come by on the road and on the ranches, wit that same damn thing in their minds. hundreds of them. They come and they quit and move on. And every one of them got their own house in their minds. And not one ever gets it.
- Crooks then tries to scare Lennie into thinking that George isn't going to come back for him at all. Lennie starts to not only get scared but mad.
- Yes, yes it does Candy.
- Must be nice having a room all alone to yourself right Crooks?
- Crooks tries to calm lennie down and then again talks about his backstory. Lennie then being interested talks about the American Dream.
- Crooks doesn't think the American Dream will ever happen.
- Candy was looking for Lennie and was going to ask Crooks and then finds Lennie in Crook's room. Crooks was going to ask him to leave but decides to let him come in.
