- In the beginning, the book introduces Katniss, Prim, their mother, and their town, district 12.
- Exposition
- To punish the districts, the Capitol forces 2 children from each of the 12 districts to go head to head in a fight to the death.
- I'm leader of Panem, President Snow
- Inciting Incident
- Katniss' sister is chosen as tribiute. Katniss volunteers in Prim's place. She is brought to the capital by train, and the games begin
- Rising action
- Hi I'm Peeta, I'm the male tribute of district 12
- Katniss teams up with Rue from district 11. They blow up the career's food supplies. However, in the midst of it all, a career tribute kills Rue. The game announcer says that if both tributes from a district make it to the end they can both win
- Climax
- Katniss finds Peeta and they hide in a cave for most of the game. Within three days it is Katniss and Peeta vs a Career tribute, Kato
- Falling action
- I'm camouflaged
- Cybernetic wolves are released in the arena. Katniss and Peeta run to the Cornucopia to higher ground. Kato is killed by the wolves. Peeta and Katniss win the hunger games and return home
