Storyboard Text

  • Exposition
  • "THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way." (pg. 1)
  • Main Conflict
  • "Harrison Bergeron, age fourteen," she said in a grackle squawk, "has just escaped from jail, where he was held on suspicion of plotting to overthrow the government." (pg. 3)
  • Rising Action
  • "I am the Emperor!" cried Harrison. "Do you hear? I am the Emperor! Everybody must do what I say at once!" (pg. 4)
  • The story off where everyone is equal. no one looks better, is smarter, or has a better voice. They wear objects called handicaps which limit looks, sight, and brain functions. Hazel and George, are the parents of Harrison Bergeron who is in prison at the age of fourteen.
  • Climax
  • "I shall now select my Empress!" he said, looking down on the cowering people. "Let the first woman who dares rise to her feet claim her mate and her throne!" (pg. 4)
  • Harrison who was locked away due to him not being able to be contained with handicaps. He escaped and headed for the studio. This is a form of Person vs. Society because he had to be locked up because he was different.
  • Falling Action
  • "She fired twice, and the Emperor and the Empress were dead before they hit the floor." (pg. 5)
  • Harrison breaks into the studio and tells everyone that he is the new emperor and that they should obey him.
  • Resolution
  • "You been crying" he said to Hazel." (pg 5)
  • Harrison ripped off his handicaps like it was butter. He also selected one of the ballerinas to be his empress. He took off all her handicaps as well. He was finally free.
  • The Emperor and his empress leaped into the air and almost touched the ceiling. Then the handicapper general came with a 10 gauge shotgun and shot them both.
  • Hazel started crying because she watched Harrison get shot, but her handicap made her forget what she saw. I think the ending is effective because it shows how bad this society is and Hazel will never remember that her son died.
  • "I forget," she said. "Something real sad on television." (pg. 6)
