- one major theme of The Monster Are Due on Maple Street by Rod Serling is the fear and suspicion and are destructive. For example, the mad mob suspects that Mr.Goodman had something to do with the power going out because Mr. Goodman's car starts running on its own and women one thinks that he is an alien and she says it in a nervous voice and it supports the theme because the residents are accusing him of having something to do with the power going of on maple street , but then the residents all turn on each other, and it supports the theme by the residents turning violently on each other because they don't know who to trust anymore , and they were violently because they thought that led Goodman had something to do with the power because he's car started running all by it's self and he's pourch lights turdon all by it's self , and they said that he wasen't even instersted in the light in the sky , but they also said that his famliy was always werid he and then charlies house lights turned on all by it's self and then they started acuseing him ,so then they told him you have something to do with it , but all of a sudden all of the residents houses startedturning on and off and the the alieans said that all it takes is a little darkness, and turning lights off , and on for them to turn on each other .
