- Infancy (birth to 18 months): The parent and child do not share a robust relationship yet, demonstrated by signs of doubt and confusion on the mothers face. With experience though, the mother will be able to provide reliable care, building rapport for trust directed to her from the child.

- Early Childhood(2-3 years): The child's success at stacking blocks gives him self confidence, which will provide him with a sense of autonomy in the future. Failure would lead to shame.

- Preschool(3-5 years): In preschool, the child asserts his dominance over another child by physically assaulting them. This would likely lead to backlash from the environment, furthering emotions of guilt.
