Storyboard Text

  • I work from sunrise to sunset, losing all my strength and still get paid nothing compared to you.
  • We all should have higher wages because of the horrible conditions we withstand everyday and the career changes we've taken.
  • I don't want to work anymore, I cut my skin everyday with the machinery.
  • I'm sick right now brother and I can barely breathe but we have to hide our discomfort or else we will be fired.
  • We need this job to help mom and dad or else we will starve.

  • Workers had from 12 to 16 working hours, six to seven days a week. Women were more employed than men, yet men were paid twice of what they gave to women. The factories were dangerous and people got easily injured and sick. They lived and worked.Some people such as artisans had to change their jobs to become poorly paid factory workers as machines started replacing their duties.

  • 1) Child labor was common in order to prevent families from starving. Kids worked in dust and had to do different tasks under machinery (without safety devices) in order to gain a payment. They also did not receive any tipe of education.2) Workers labored in an environment with dirt and polluted air (which damaged the lungs) allowing workers to be prone to diseases and accidents. However, if workers were found to be sick or injured they were fired.
  • Our lives have improved so much since the reforms!
  • Owners could easily replace workers if they found them unefficient, sick or injured. They cared mainly about the profit, instead of their workers' health.
  • Workers and began to fight for their rights in the work area. Reformers introduced social, educational and work reforms which increased the opportunity and living quality of most people during this period.
  • OUR KIDS NEED EDUCATION
  • WE NEED BETTER PAYMENT, I CAN'Y TAkE THIS
  • New reforms slowly birthed important changes in our society. These included mandatory education, child labor laws, and eight-hour workdays and addressed minimum wage, compensation for workplace accidents, and improved sanitation infrastructure.
