  • The term CBD means Central Business District. Central Business Districts are the commercial and business centers of the city. These regions are heavily populated. Alongside, they contain many skyscrapers, shops, malls, offices, and retail. In CBDs, homes and apartments are less common, they are more frequent outside of Central Business Districts. Central Business Districts are the center points for transportation networks.
  • Gated Communities
  • Me too!
  • These homes were just transformed to how they are now! They use to be much smaller
  • Suburbs are primarily residential areas. They are on the outside of big cities and towns where people live. In contrast to CBDs, they are not crowded with tall buildings. They have some retail but it is not as busy.
  • Gentrification

  • A greenbelt is a belt of land created to limit the sprawl of urban areas. These belts can be parks or for the use of agriculture. People can often exercise in these belts due to containing bike trails or running trails.

  • Gated communities are a group of homes containing fences, gated walls, or other physical barriers surrounding them. These homes have restricted areas and are more privatized than the average home. These secure developments contain controlled entrances to prevent non-residents from coming in.

  • Gentrification is the process of transforming a neighborhood to be higher in wealth. Gentrified neighborhoods tend to attract wealthy people. When neighborhoods are gentrified, the housing improves and new businesses are brought in. Due to gentrification, some people are forced to move out due to rent increasing and other expenses.
  • Where do I go now? I couldn't keep up with the higher rent.
  • Tenements are run-down apartment buildings. Tenements are constructed with cheap materials and have poor maintenance. For instance, tenements have boarded-up windows, leaky plumbing, and poorly-conditioned heating systems. Tenements are cramped and unsanitary, thus causing a higher risk of illnesses and fires.
  • It's so dirty...
