  • This is so wonderful! We just bought land from the French, and now have land twice the size of our old land!!
  • Thomas Jefferson just bought the Louisiana Territory from the French. Now our land is double the size of the United States.

  • The Native Americans were forced out of their land, to go to Kansas. They were being put in Kansas because Pike and Long said it was a desert, and it wasn't worth living there.

  • All this way for a desert!?! These vast plains...may become in time equally celebrated as the sandy deserts of Africa...
