Storyboard Text

  • "The king has laid himself down and will not rise again,"Gilgamesh goes back to Uruk and realizes that it was not his destiny to have everlasting life. He dies a mortal and is remembered as a strong king that no one could challenge.
  • So Enkidu and Gilgamesh embraced and their friendship was sealed. (pg.6) Enkidu hears about Gilgamesh and goes to Uruk to stop his reign of terror. They battle and realize they are of equal strength and become friends. This was the start of of their journey together.
  • Gilgamesh listened to the word of his companion, he took the axe in his hand, he drew the sword from his belt, and he struck Humbaba with a thrust of the sword to the neck, and Enkidu his comrade struck the second blow. At the third blow Humbaba fell. (pg.11)Together Gilgamesh and Enkidu went into the cedar forest to kill Humbaba. They cut of his head and took it back with them when he was deafeted.
  • Then he called to Gilgamesh, 'My friend, the great goddess cursed me and I must die in shame. I shall not die like a man fallen in battle; I feared to fall, but happy is the man who falls in the battle, for I must die in shame. Ishtar asks Gilgamesh to marry him and he insults and declines her. In rage she calls to her father to unleash The Bull of Heaven to kill Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh and Enkidu work together to kill the bull and Enkidu is cursed to die of sickness.
  • Gilgamesh, your own hands have prevented you from crossing the Ocean; when you destroyed the tackle of the boat you destroyed its safety.Following Enkidu's death Gilgamesh goes on a quest to find everlasting life. In his journey he comes across the boat man Urshanabi and tells him how he has come to the water of death. When Gilgamesh destroys the boat needed Urshanabi tells him the materials he needs to fix it. Urshanabi ferries Gilgamesh over the waters of death to meet Utnapishtim who tells him the secret to everlasting life.
  • In time past Utnapishtim was a mortal man; henceforth he and his wife shall live in the distance at the mouth of the rivers.: Utnapishtim tells Gilgamesh about the flood he endured and how he and his boarded a boat to escape it. Utnapishtim informs Gilgamesh that to be worthy of everlasting life he needs to stay awake for 7 nights. Gilgamesh thinks he can do it but immeditately falls asleep from journeying so far. Utnapishtim sends him back to Uruk with Urshanabi.
