- Eirik the red was born around 950 on a farm in Norway
- Eirik's dad killed a man in a bar fight when Eirik was in his late teens. Eirik and his dad were guilty and banished from Norway.

- Soon around 960, Eirik's dad died and Eirik was left by himself
- Eirik married Thjodhild, a daughter of a wealthy family.
- Erik's in-laws helped him move south.Eirik was involved in a bloody death of his 2 neighbors and forced to flee againEirik setteled with his family around 50 miles away
- Soon after Eirik arrived with his family, he gave a man named Thorgest some house beams to borrow. Eirik decided to settle here permanently so he asked for the beams back. Thorgest wouldn't give them back so it started a fight. The fight ended up with Thorgest's 2 sons dyeing. This time Eirik was innocent. There was a town meeting and there, Thorgest and his family voted that Eirik would get banded from Iceland for 3 years.

- Eirik knew where he wanted to go. He made a 450 mile trip going west. Him and his crew sailed west another 150 miles. They found a grassland with wild flowers and this is where Eirik decided he wanted to stay. He named this place Eiriksfjord.
