The climax is the turning point of the story, this is when the old man's eye opened on the eighth night. The boy realizes now is his opportunity to finally get rid of the eye and watch the life drain from it. He suffocates the old man, waiting for minutes until his heartbeat disappears. Then, he cuts it into pieces, hiding the discombobulated body under the floorboards to dispose of it.
"Yes, he was stone dead."
The falling action occurs when all the loose ends are tied up. In this story, it is when the boy hears a knock on the door. He proceeds downstair to find the police there. A neighbor claims to have overhears screaming. The boy quickly disguises the screaming as his own, from a childish dream. The police begin to check the house, even though they see nothing out of place. In attempt to further conceal the events of that night, the boy stays calm and invites the officers to stay. The boy entertains them so that they raise no suspicion.
"A neighbor had heard a scream and had gone to the police station." That's why we were here.
The resolution is the outcome of the conflict. This is when the police and the boy decide to sit and chat. The boy, so confident in himself, offers to sit in the room of the old man. The boy confesses he murdered the old man, and even that the body is in the same room as them!
"Was it possible that they did not hear? No. They heard. They knew! They were making fun of my horror!
