- In this story, you will learn about the seven Catholic Social Teaching principles and how they can be applied to everyday life. We will also cover the corporal works of mercy and how they can aid those suffering from the injustices depicted in the story. Catholic social teaching is a set of rules that helps people create a society that is full of justice and where everyone can thrive. If we as a society could apply these rules then no one would be hurting or suffering and everybody could live happily and freely instead of living just to survive.The following themes (CST) that we are going to be covering and depicting in this story include the life and dignity of the human person, the call to family, community, and participation, rights and responsibilities, option for the poor and vulnerable, the dignity of work and the rights of workers, solidarity, and care for God's creation. These are the foundational principles and values that can lead to a just society if everyone works together to fulfill these values. The following Corporal works of Mercy (CWM) can be applied to aid the injustices in the world by providing support for the immediate physical needs of people. The Corporal Works of Mercy are: To feed the hungry. To give water to the thirsty. To clothe the naked. To shelter the homeless. To visit the sick. To visit the imprisoned, and To bury the dead. Through the application of these principles we can help to aid those that are physically suffering.

- Even though the man's son is suffering and the doctors have already told him that there is no cure for the son's disease. The man decides not to euthanize his son as he knows that he will pass when God intends for him to pass because that goes with the teachings of the church. Although this is just one of the ways that the Life and dignity of the Human person can be applied to a real-life scenario it shows that we should protect life no matter what even if the person is suffering. The CWM that goes with this would be to visit the sick, and eventually bury the dead as the man's son is dying and the man came to visit his son in the hospital. What are some ways you as the reader can partake in this CST and CWM?

- This man is giving money to a homeless man so that he can aid the man to be able to live life per his God-given right to life. Also in the bible Leviticus 25: 35 states that when someone is reduced to poverty we must help Because of this the man is following the CST of Rights and responsibilities. which states that we all have basic human rights and that people have a responsibility to make sure that everyone has these rights. This depiction shows the CWM of sheltering the homeless, feeding the hungry, and giving water to the thirsty although the man is directly giving the homeless man shelter he is contributing to helping the homeless man get back up on his feet by providing him the funds necessary to do so. What has been a time you have helped someone in need and applied the listed CWM's

- This family is participating in their community by helping to volunteer to pick up trash on the beach. Not only are they participating in the call to family, community, and participation by being active members in their community and helping their community but also by participating as a family which is the foundation for this CST. The CWM that applies to this scenario is Clothe the Naked as these materials that are gathered on the beach eventually help to make clothing that are made out of renewable resources such as sandals, shirts, and pants. What are some ways that you can be an active member in your community?

- Through this woman helping out at her local food kitchen she is exercising the CST of Option for the poor and vulnerable. Because she is willing to sacrifice her own time for the betterment of the lives of those who are less fortunate and people who can't provide for themselves either because they are too old or disabled she is also living out the CWM's of feed the hungry and give water to the thirsty. By doing so she is contributing to making society a more fair and healthy place by promoting a world that values the lives of everyone and makes sure that everyone has their basic rights to life. What are some local organizations that help to provide help to the needy and disabled and how can you get involved?

- but how am I supposed to feed my family?
- You need to work unpaid overtime!
- In this story, the man's boss demands that he work unpaid overtime. This is a violation of his worker's rights and is unjust. The CST that applies to this situation is the Dignity of work and the rights of workers as the man is being asked to do something beyond his paycheck and is not being rewarded for his work. This also prevents him from being able to properly provide for his family. The CWMs that apply to this situation are: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, and clothe the naked because if the man isn't properly treated at work he won't have his basic human rights of food, drink, and shelter. What are some ways that the man could advocate for more rights in his workplace?

- This family decided to take time out of their day to participate in a program that visits prisoners with few to no visitors. This shows the CST of solidarity because they are living community with their fellow citizens regardless of the fact they are incarcerated. By participating in this the family is helping to promote a just society that leaves no one behind. The CWM that applies to this is to visit the imprisoned as it is shown through the family's willingness to participate in this activity even though they are meeting someone that they don't even know. What are some ways that you can help the imprisoned in your community other than visiting them?

- The man although he wants to get up close to the deer knows that he should not disturb nature and therefore is caring for God's creation by not disturbing the peace. By doing so the man is applying the CST of Care for God's creation. How can you live out this CST in a city setting?

- Through these depictions of what it means to live out each of these Catholic social teachings and the corporal works of mercy connected to each of them, we are shown what it means to live a just life. In any and every aspect of almost any situation, we can try to recognize and apply these teachings if these injustices do happen to come up in our daily lives.
