It all started at 6:45 AM on the first day of middle school. My alarm screamed at me and I jumped out of bed to turn it off. Once I was awake, I felt my stomach tightening, and my heart racing, which was weird because I was full of excitement the day before.
I anxiously went downstairs to make cereal, which I barely ate. I didn’t think I could face the day, the unknown! I had to start middle school.
My first stop was the cafeteria, which was filled with new faces and the sound of nervous chatter. I searched the crowd for familiar faces, my heart pounding out of my chest, my palms were sweating. As I looked around some more, there were other familiar faces. I began to feel calmer.
Once we were released from the cafeteria, many kids whizzed past me in the hallway like charging rhinos. I had to check my schedule paper for my locker, locker number, and first class. I thought it would be a lot harder to memorize my locker number, but it was as easy as remembering your phone password. School was finally about to start.
f In my classes, the teachers shared information about themselves and what we were going to learn over the year. Each class was about forty minutes long with the exception of ILA, and it was way better getting up every 40 minutes than sitting in one class the whole day. Things were looking up!
As I went through the day, I realized that I liked how middle school was set up. You get a lot more time to stretch your legs, and the addition of electives was also exciting. The building which was so overwhelming at first had started to feel a little friendlier. I was able to overcome my fear of middle school. In conclusion, the lesson I learned was that there are many things in life that may seem scary, but they are actually not. You just have to keep pushing forward.
