- Just got some potatoes! This is great!!!
- During the 1500's the demand for potatoes were very high. The English would end up eating for all breakfast, lunch and dinner. Potatoes crops were very important because it was easy to grow and were rich in vitamin C. It was basically the only source of food throughout the whole entire diet of a normal class Irish.
- POTATOES FOR BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND DINNER!!! WOOHOOOO
- In 1845 , there was a crop disease that spread across Ireland which would led to almost half of Ireland crops. People at that time relied heavily on their potato supply as it was all that they ate. The lack of potatoes could lead to great hunger to the lives of the Irish.
- I spent the whole morning digging up these potatoes and more than half of it is rotten...
- I cant believe it!! That means the news was real... Potato crops all around were being destroyed by this new crop disease called blight.
- When there was a shortage of potatoes, many Irish starved. The US tried to help by supplying corn to the people and help with the starvation rate of the Irish. People got kick out from their rented homes as they used potatoes to pay their rent However this was not sustainable because the people didn't know how to cook the corn and therefore died while eating it raw.
- My stomach is rumbling... We're literally starving everyday we are living.
- What happened to our potatoes?
- Yaa!!! People are starving everywhere here and there.
- Many Irish were starving to death and had no choice but to move to the Americas which at that time was known as the new world. About 1.7million Irish citizens left Ireland as millions were dying from starvation.
- Many ended up dying through their journey of going to the new world. Basicnecessities for example food and clothing weren't provided to the paupers and therefore many died throughout the journey as well.
- This is torture...
- We're all just going to die
- For those who have made it across the Atlantic ocean to the new world settled there and continued on their life over there.
- How's the new life feeling?
- I'm so glad we moved... If not, we probably would have died...
