Hello. My name is Shyie. I'm the current chief of the Costanoan tribe. I would like to tell you about the Costanoans and their culture and tradtions.
I'd like to start off by talking about the Costanoans' beliefs. They believed that bears represented important animal spirits. Following this belief they perform the bear ceremony yearly where they spend time with the creator.
Secondly, I'd like to inform you aout the Costanoans' economics. They built boats made out of tule reeds and would travel in these boats to trade. They'd trade for cinnabar, piñion nuts, shells, decorative stones, and acorns.
The third thing I like to talk about is the Costanoans' social factors. The Costanoans were one huge group until they were divided into 30 populations and had eight language groups. Along with this there were Shaman who would wear bear skins and even kill people with poisoned claws.
Lastly, I'd like to talk to you about the Costanoans' political side of things. They were lead by one person; the chief. This position was hereditary meaning it was passed down from generation to generation. The chief's world revovled around the father's family and there'd be 15 people per household on average.
I hope you learned something from what I told you about the Costanoan people. My goal is for their existence and culture never to be forgotten. That's the end of this documentary. Thank you for watching.
