Germany, allies and associated powers signed a peace treaty on the 28th of June 1919 at the Hall of Mirrors, France. This was to declare the end of WW1. This resulted in Germany losing most of its territory and Germany being blamed responsible for WW1. The Dolchstosslegande (stab in the back theory) soon occurred. The Weimar Republic had blamed the Germans for losses to seize power. This method failed as it became too successful. This was one of the most important events after WW1.
The Great Depression
On the 8-9th of November 1923, Hitler attempted to overthrow the German government in Munich. He did this by marching to a beer hall and persuading politicians to listen to him. This failed as the Munich police clashed with Hitler's troops. Hitler was sentenced 5 years in jail. During his jail time, he wrote ' Mein Kampf. Hitler served 9 months in jail as he was made chancellor.
Propaganda/Repression of opposition
The Weimer republic was the government party of Germany from 1919 to 1933, but began to fall after the Germans did no longer support them due to some main factors such as the treaty of Versailles, and The Great Depression. Hindenburg made Hitler chancellor. at this time and soon after he died Hitler made himself president as well as “the father of Germany”(Futher) and made Nazis popular. Not long after on the 31st of January 1933 the German parliament in Berlin was burnt down after being set on fire. The nazis took this opportunity and blamed the communists for this happening.
Jews and communists as scapegoats
ALL YOUR FAULT!
In 1929 Germany got hit hard by the great depression after the stock market crashed. Unemployment rates spiked up and the worth of money spiked down which meant there was homelessness and starvation. Loans from the US were withdrawn to help the economy. During this time Hitler knew that Germans were desperate and he was willing to change it as it would be a good way to gain power.
Mum do we have anything to eat?
From 1933 to1943 the nazis used propaganda through radios, cinemas, newspapers and art to get through messages which Germans fell for very quickly. This lead to huge rally and interest. Nazis had developed a system to spy on the population and spy on oppositions. The main groups involved in this system were Storm Troopers, Gestapo and the Informal army. Their job was to intimidate and attack oppositions on the street and to make Nazi supporters feel good about their features ( blond hair, blue eyes.) This led to Germans fearing talking down on the nazis.
Hitler accused and blamed Jews and communists for all of Germany's sufferings as Hitler was scared people would follow the left-winged parties which would lead to a communist republic. Hitler believed that after getting rid of the Jews Germany would become great again. This created tension and hate.
