- Mama, why don't you come play with me outside lately?
- I'm sorry darling, but my allergies get especially bad during springtime.
- Huh? What are allergies?
- An allergy makes a person sick when they get exposed to stuff that are normally harmless.
- I have a pollen allergy, but people can also be allergic to things like food and animal fur.
- But if they're supposed to be harmless, why do you get sick?
- Well, the cells that protect the people with allergies are dramatic, so they fight the allergens too hard and that makes people sick instead.
- Allergens are the things that trigger allergies.
- Oh, maybe my friend has an allergy! Her face turned red and puffy when a bee stung her.
- How do you know if you have an allergy? 
- I get a runny nose and itchy eyes when I have an allergy, but things like getting rashes, swelling of the face, or feeling dizzy can also happen to people with allergies. 
- Can allergies be cured? Bea went back to school the next day...
- There's no cure for allergies, but the symptoms like itching and swelling can be treated with medicines.
- It must be hard to have allergies, mama. What can I do to help?
- I'll try to remember that!
- The best you can do is to know if the people around you has allergies, so you won't accidentally cause anyone harm.
