  • At the age of 16 the prince got married and they lived happily for 12 years.
  • Prince Siddhartha had a very nice life with everything he could ever ask for. His father thought that if the prince goes outside, then he won't be a great and powerful ruler. The king kept the prince inside his whole life until he got married . Then the prince got to go outside a little more.
  • In the northern part of India in 563 BC a new prince was born. His parents were very wealthy and powerful in the kingdom. The king and queen decided to name him Prince Siddhartha.
  • When the prince turned 29, they had a child and the king gave the prince full freedom.
  • On the second trip the prince saw a man on the ground in pain. The chariot driver told him that the man was sick and everyone can get sick
  • One day when Prince Siddhartha went on a trip he saw an old man with a walking stick. The chariot driver told the prince that every one's body weakens with age.
  • On the third trip the prince saw a dead man. The chariot driver told him that the man died and that everyone dies and no one can live forever.
  • After prince siddhartha became an ascetic, he did not find peace and freedom of suffering.
  • On the fourth trip Prince Siddhartha saw a very peaceful person and asked him why he was so happy. The man replied that he find peace by helping others find peace. By hearing this Prince Siddhartha became a ascetic.

  • The prince wanted to find enlightenment and he tried to find a middle path. So on his 35th birthday a grass cutter gave him 8 bundles of soft grass and prince Siddhartha knew that enlightenment would come soon.
  • While the prince was meditating under the bodhi he found how to reach nirvana or true happiness and peace. He learned about the four noble truths and the eightfold path. Then he taught people about this. At the end of his meditation he had become a Buddha or the awakened one.

  • Live a life of selflessness (not selfish-ness), love, and nonviolence.
  • Focus your mind with practices suchas meditation.
  • Be careful and truthful in what you say.Do not lie or gossip.
  • Be aware of but not attached to youremotions, thoughts, and feelings.
  • Do not kill, steal, or lie. Be honest.
  • Promote good actions and preventevil actions.
  • Do not work at a job that causes harmto people or living creatures.

  • 1. Suffering is present inall things, and nothinglasts forever.2. Suffering is caused bycravings (desires andwants).3. The way to end suffer-ing is to give up allcravings.4. The way to give up allcravings is to live lifeaccording to theEightfold Path.
