Storyboard Text

  • The Beginning
  • Hello, my name is Peter the giraffe. Today I will narrate my story.
  • Genetic varaition in giraffes
  • Competition
  • A long time ago, some animals belonging to a species of herbivore lived on the grassy plains of Africa. They ate leaves from trees.
  • Variation
  • There are many different types of giraffes including- the Masia giraffes, the Northern giraffes, and the Southern giraffes. As in all species, there was genetic variation among them. Some individuals had varieties of genes that gave them long necks, and some had varieties of genes that gave them shorter necks.
  • Speciation
  • In some years, the rains did not come. The animals ran short of food. When all the lower leaves had been eaten, only the longneckedanimals could get food. The shorter giraffes have a harder time surviving due to competing for food with the taller giraffes. They may find shorter plants to eat from but then they will be competing with other animals for food.
  • " Give a title "
  • Giraffes have adapted to their environment by evolving with a longer neck. With a longer neck, giraffes don't have to compete with many other animals for food.
  • The giraffe has originated from many different forms of animals including okapi. An okapi is a form of zebra and giraffe.
  • Over time the smaller giraffes will die off and the new offspring will be adapted to the environment with longer necks and being taller than the last generation that has died.
