Storyboard Text

  • The animals of the Manor Farm gather to listen to a speech given by Old Major, the oldest of the pigs. He calls attention to the way humans have abused and mistreated them, and says they should rebel against them. He tells them about a dream he had where animals were free of humans, and lived in happiness and purity. He then teaches them a song called, "Beasts of England", which they sing until they hear a shot fired by the owner and hurry back to sleep.
  • Old Major dies soon after his speech, and the animals start planning their rebellion. One day, when the owner, Mr. Jones, is asleep, the animals break into the storage shed looking for food. Mr. Jones awakens and gathers a team of men to stop the animals, but a bloody battle ensues that the animals ultimately win. To celebrate, the animals rename the farm, "Animal Farm", and paint their Seven Commandments on the wall of the barn.
  • The animals continue the farm work themselves, some of them working harder than others, and the pigs assuming leadership of the farm. The animals notice that the pigs are getting more food than they are, but they insist that they need it to work for the benefit of the entire farm. Two of the pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, have many arguments, including whether the animals should build a windmill. In response, Napoleon sends nine dogs to chase Snowball off of the farm, allowing him to take total control.
  • Napoleon orders the animals to build the windmill. He also hires a human to communicate with the outside world and allows the pigs to sleep in beds, even though it is against the Seven Commandments. One day, a storm blows the windmill over, but Napoleon blames this and their other problems on Snowball. The animals start to become overworked and underfed, so the hens protest by withholding their eggs. However, Napoleon forces the rebellious animals to confess their wrongdoings, and orders his dogs to kill them.
  • The animals start to rebuild the windmill, while Napoleon makes arrangements to sell a pile of timber to a farmer named Frederick. Napoleon is outraged when he discovers Frederick paid with fake money, and the animals fight a battle with his men, which ends with them blowing up the windmill. The animals start rebuilding it for the second time, even though they are tired and starved. One of the horses, Boxer, is taken away to be turned into glue, but Squealer, one of the pigs, convinces the animals that they actually have plenty of food, and that Boxer was simply taken to the veterinarian.
  • Years after the rebellion, the windmill has been completed, but most of the original animals have died. The young animals continue to work hard, while the pigs relax and watch. The animals are shocked when they see the pigs walking on their hind legs, and see that Seventh Commandment, which used to say, "all animals are equal" now says, "some animals are more equal than others." The pigs start treating the animals just like Mr. Jones did, and one day, they see the pigs playing cards with a group of human farmers and are unable to tell them apart.
