  • Introduction
  • In our society today, sports has basically become part of our religion. Almost everyone in some way has a tie to a sport or an athlete in a sport already. But, if that's all we had in our lives, all a town had to offer to us, than there is no way we would be able to thrive.
  • Narration
  • Sports : recreational activities that require some degree of physical strength, skill, or stamina. Depending on the sport, athletes compete, either alone or as part of a team, against others or against their own previous performance. Sports can be a source of both exercise and entertainment
  • In our world, we see sports as a big deal, but there are things with more influence and more precence that we shoul focus on more.
  • Confirmation-Novel
  • Sports were the only thing the town had left, and they are close to the best in that part, but still that hasn't affected anything. Literally towns around them don't have as good of sports and are still more relevant to the world this Beartown.
  • Athletes and Sports cannot be trusted to "put a town on the map".
  • Confirmation-Research
  • 50 of some of the largest cities in the world don't have a sports team.
  • In this,we are evaluating whether or not sports are something we should put first as a staple of a town, to get it recognized.
  • Concession/Refutation
  • Concession : There are some towns that are popular only because of sports: without them they wouldn't be in the spotlight how they are now.
  • Refutation : sports have an impact in our world, but not big enough to put a town on the map. Industrialization and jobs is a main thing that brings people to places.
  • We see in the novel, that even though the town has the second best team, still no one cares enough to make the town relevant. They have nothing, and sports weren't able to change that.
  • Conclusion
  • Sports can be a key aspect to our lives, but we must open our eyes and realize that there is more to making something out there, we must have more to offer than that.
  • The biggest cities in the world, (London, Tokyo) don't have a major sports team to carry them, but instead have thrived over way more influential things.
  • Sports aren't needed to make a city thrive.
  • Also, some people may not like sports, so you can't use them as a way to make a town popular. They are not the main pull factor of places, unlike jobs or location.
  • We must also realize this in our life. Even if we have one good thing about us, that's not good enough; we need to keep striving for more than that, and lifting us up to greater heights.
