Hello, I'm Calen. Please refer to me in He/Him pronouns. Today, I will take you with me in my daily classes and explore the complexities of tracking and detracting today in my school.
"To start my day in school, I have Rgents Science. I am taking this course because the class is required for a science class. I have been excelling in this class and believe that my efforts would be best suited for advanced placement courses such as AP Biology. With this being said, I am going to schedule a time to talk to my counselor about next year's course and suggest placement in a higher-level course."
" Hi, Mr Volknov. I would like to talk about next year's courses. I have been doing well in my current courses and would like to suggest placement in a higher track for science like AP Biology."
"Well, Calen I can let you do an upper placement next year. However in 2025, We, as an institution, are discontinuing our tracking practices and are switching to a curriculum that is structured to the individuality of each student and their learning needs."
"Hello, Calen. It is nice to see you. What brings you to my office?"
"Moving forward, this school acknowledges the implications of tracking and the attention tracking creates towards the use of segregational practices that we do not support anymore."
"Mr.Volknov, What does that look like moving forward? Will there be supplemental aids in each classroom for students to participate in higher levels? Or will inclusion become the mainstreaming of all abilities into a general education classroom?"
"Calen, I appreciate the thoughtfulness and attention to those questions. From my current information, we will move forward into a mainstream general education classroom with differences in abilities and backgrounds. With this mainstreamed classroom, our vision is that the students will be able to step into a new perspective on education that involves the sharing and positive communication between ability levels to further themselves and others in pursuing an equitable education.
" Oh okay, I just have one last question, from your current understanding, will mainstreaming be taught to teachers across the world to all students and faculty who are teaching?"
"Calen, that is a great question. I believe that it would be best that in the future of education there is a larger focus on supporting this inclusion without sacrificing the im[improvement of academic, social, and emotional needs for each student. Our application will include mandatory courses in teacher academic, social, and emotional intelligence. "
"Thank, Mr. Volknov. I appreciate the insight into the future of education and the future changes for a more inclusive environment for all. Have a good rest of your day and Happy Holidays! "
