  • 4. European colonialism had a profound impact on African societies and economies. European powers imposed new political and legal systems, often based on racial hierarchies and designed to benefit European interests. African economies were often restructured to serve the needs of European markets, with little investment in local infrastructure or industrial development.
  • 5. African resistance to colonialism took many forms, from armed rebellion to nonviolent protest. Some African leaders sought to negotiate with European powers, while others called for outright resistance to colonial rule. Resistance movements often faced brutal repression, but they helped to inspire a sense of national identity and pride among Africans.
  • 6. After World War II, the process of decolonization began in Africa. Many African countries gained independence from European colonial powers. However, the transition to independence was not always smooth. Many of these newly independent countries struggled with political instability, corruption, and economic challenges.
