- Formation of The National Assembly
- I can't afford to pay such high taxes. I can barley provide for myself.
- The Third estate was facing high taxes and were not able to vote. They demanded a Constitutional Monarchy so they could be fairly represented. They also formed a political body called, the National Assembly .
- We want to be able to vote and be represented fairly politically as the third estate.
- Storming of the Bastille
- On July 14, 1789, an angry mob of protesters charged at The Bastille, which is a prison. By tearing it town brick by brick, they were showing that they are determined for change. This was in retaliation the King Louis XVI trying to end the revolution. Soon after, the National Assembly outlined a basic human rights platform in a document called the Declaration of the Rights of Men.
- Furious at the monarchy, women marched to Versailles and demanded the king and queen return to Paris. Over the next few years, King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette tried to flee Paris once again. This is what led to Louis XVI's death by the guillotine.
- We demand that the king and queen come back to Paris!
