  • Wow! look at this amazing flower. I wonder how something this beautiful stays alive and here its gets its energy from.
  • Actually my friend I get my energy from the sun through a process called photosynthesis!
  • Woah! You can talk?
  • Of course I can, and I can do so much more.
  • Interesting. Tell me more.
  • Well like every living thing I need energy to live. But unlike humans I produce my own energy straight from the sun.
  • Woah, so you're like a living solar panel!
  • Yup. I use chlorophyll, which is in chloroplast, to capture light energy, which is inside chloroplast. I have two sets of reactions to produce energy, light-dependent and light-independent.
  • How does that work?
  • Well through my light-dependent reaction I use light and water to produce oxygen and electrons. Then in my light-independent reaction I use the electrons and carbon dioxide to produce glucose, which is what I use for energy.
  • WOW! That is super awesome! But how do you take the glucose and use it s energy?
  • The next stage is called the Krebs Cycle. In this stage I take the pyruvic acid and use it it produce CO2, more electrons, and two more ATP. The final stage is the Electron Transport stage. This stage takes the electrons and Oxygen to produce water and 32 ATP.
  • I go through another process called cellular respiration, this is done in the mitochondria. The first stage of this is called glycolysis. In this stage I take the the glucose and convert it into pyruvic acid. Electrons and two ATP are also produced in this stage.
