Storyboard Text

  • Hey there guys could you tell me anything about the process of photosynthesis?
  • Yeah of course we can! The light first enters the plant from the sun. It is absorbed into the chloroplast. Then the water absorbed from the ground is transferred up by the xylem and transported to other parts of the plant. Electrons are then passed down the ETC supporter and break up the H2O into electrons, hydrogen, and oxygen.
  • The high energy electrons from photosystem II then move through electron transport chains to photosystem I. Molecules in the ETC use energy from electrons to transport from the stroma into the inner thylakoid.
  • The different pigments that are contained in the thylakoids add energy from light electrons that are picked up from NADP+ to help and form NADPH. Also in Photosystem II ATP transforms into ADP.
  • Tell me more.
  • In the third and final phase the inside of the thylakoid membrane fills up with positively charged H+ ions making the outside of the membrane negatively charged and the inside positively charged. The end result of this is oxygen.
  • And the third and final phase of the light dependent reaction?
  • Yes I sure can! The first phase of the Calvin cycle is the carbon fixation phase. In this phase 6 CO2 combines with RuBp which is 5 carbon sugar. The enzyme rubisco helps form the 12 3-carbon molecules G3P
  • Could you explain the Calvin cycle to me?
  • The second phase however is called the reduction phase. In this phase 12 NADPH along with 12 ATP form the 12 3-carbon molecules into 12 high energy 3-carbon molecules. 2 of the 12 3-carbon molecules are combined to form a 6 carbon sugar.
  • And the second phase?
  • The final phase of the Calvin cycle is in fact the regeneration phase. In the regeneration phase 6 ATP molecules convert the 10 remaining 3-carbon molecules back into six 5-carbon RuBp.
  • And the final phase of the Calvin cycle?
