When conducting a debate, it is important to acknowledge both sides of an issue. When you present your side, it is known as the claim. When your opponent presents their side, it is known as the counterclaim.
I see your point, however students would have more time for activities outside of their core subjects.
For today's argument, we will start with the pro-side. Students will need to provide evidence to support their side.

From there, the con-side presents their claim. Students will need to provide evidence to support their side.
When listening to your partner's counterclaim, you will need to think of a comeback statement, better known as the rebuttal.
Once you present your rebuttal, your opponent will need to respond. Always be prepared by researching both sides of the argument ahead of time!
Once the debate ends, the audience can vote to determine which person had the stronger argument. Remember, a strong argument is supported by strong evidence and explanations.
